Bloco
Our story
2016. A warehouse on Rua Capitão Leitão, in Marvila, rented for a year with the money from three battles won and a family loan. One room, a floor bought second-hand from a gym, a mirror wall we put up ourselves. Twelve students in the first week, nineteen by the end of the month.
2018. The Nave got its LED strip and the second room got a name: the Betão, with the concrete floor where Nuno started teaching breaking. House, afro and dancehall arrived, and the first Bloco Battle filled the Nave on a Saturday in June.
2020. We closed like everyone else and taught through a laptop window; we came back with the Cubo, the small room for the smallest, and with Mafalda and Carla teaching the Kids.
2022. Half our students were already crossing the bridge every night, so we crossed it: a first floor in Almada, factory windows, two rooms and a yellow door. Today we are ten teachers, nearly fifty classes a week and two schools on a single membership. The circle still closes every class.
